The Importance of Laboratory Tests in Dialysis
Laboratory Services are at the center of medical follow-up to preserve the health status of chronic kidney failure patients and determine how successful the hemodialysis treatment is. As Bali Dialysis Center, without allowing any of our patients to wait in general hospital queues or experience additional fatigue, we take all mandatory monthly and medically required blood and urine tests right from your dialysis chair before the treatment, via our specialized nurses.
The samples taken are delivered safely via special couriers on the same day to our contracted reference laboratories which hold ISO or Ministry of Health quality standards, strictly adhering to the cold chain rules. As soon as the results are issued, they are directly integrated into our patient tracking system (Merd-sis) and fall in front of our responsible physician and nephrologists.
Monthly Routine Biochemistry and Hemogram Tests
According to standards, an extensive test panel is analyzed from each hemodialysis patient at least once a month to determine their general condition. The laboratory reports we meticulously track within this panel include:
- Complete Blood Count (Hemogram): Follow-up of anemia, which is frequently seen in kidney patients and caused by the kidney's inability to produce the erythropoietin hormone. According to the results, our physician prescribes blood-forming injections (Erythropoietin) or iron treatments.
- Renal Profile (Kidney Functions): Urea (BUN) and Creatinine levels are measured to look at the dialysis clearance efficiency (Kt/V and URR ratios) before and after treatment. This shows the adequacy of your session time or dialyzer (filter) type.
- Electrolyte Balance: Vital electrolytes like Potassium (K), Sodium (Na), Calcium (Ca), and Phosphorus (P) are tracked. Because high potassium can lead to cardiac arrest, and irregular phosphorus can lead to severe bone diseases, instant dietitian intervention is carried out for these values.
- Iron Profile: Serum Iron, Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC), and Ferritin tests are examined every 3 months to keep the body's iron stores stable.
Parathyroid and Bone Metabolism (PTH)
One of the most troubling complications of kidney failure is bone and joint degradation known as "Renal Osteodystrophy." To prevent this, the Parathormone (iPTH) values of our patients are periodically checked in our center. The calcium, phosphorus, and PTH triad that deviates from normal is regulated by our specialist physician with special forms of Vitamin D and phosphorus binder medication regimens. Our goal is for our patients to maintain their mobility and bone solidity until old age.
Viral Indicators and Hepatitis Tracking (HbsAg, HCV, HIV)
Since multiple patients frequently receive treatments that may pose blood-borne contact risks in dialysis centers, systemic infection control is of vital importance. For every new patient applying to Bali Dialysis Center, Hepatitis B (HbsAg), Hepatitis C (Anti-HCV), and AIDS (Anti-HIV) tests must definitely be requested prior to treatment. For our continuing patients, these tests are constantly repeated in accordance with regulations (in monthly or 3-month periods). Patients with positive or suspicious test results are immediately directed to separate devices and isolated VIP halls, reducing the cross-infection risk to "zero."
As Bali Dialysis Center, we don't just file our patients' laboratory results; we transparently explain these to them and inform them about the course of treatment. Our objective is to ensure your values always remain at optimum standards, within "Healthy" reference ranges, or closest to it. All routine laboratory procedures for our patients covered by SGK are coordinated completely free of charge by our center.
